Client: One Housing
Services: Provision of Construction information for Mulalley & Co based upon conceptual scheme by Fraser Brown Mackenna.
Northwold Road is a development of 62 units in a complex urban setting locked behind existing properties on all sides, with limited frontage and access points. Set against a mixture of Victorian terraced housing, newer developments of the last century and a terrace of commercial properties, the former industrial site presented a challenging redevelopment.
The scheme comprises 4 separate blocks, ranging from 2 to 4 storeys constructed using a mixture of reinforced concrete frame and traditional build methods. Blocks 1 & 2 (Hazlitt Court) comprise four affordable rent town houses and 24 shared ownership apartments. Block 4 (Saxony Court) comprises 20 shared ownership apartments.
Block 5 (Salvesen House) provides 18 self-contained Housing Care and Support (HCS) apartments with a common room for social interaction, office and overnight accommodation for support staff. Properties are served by photovoltaic panels to achieve 10% renewable energy and have 'green roofs', SUDS (Sustainable Drainage System) and rainwater harvesting, achieving Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. Work commenced at the end of July 2010, with the completed project handed over to One Housing Group at the end of June 2012.
